Sport betting fans who expected the New York Yankees to secure their 27th baseball World Series title last night were proved wrong.
Last year's winners The Philadelphia Phillies, who trailed 3-1 in the best of seven game series going into yesterday's clash, saw off the Yankees 8-6 at the Citizens Bank Stadium thanks to two home runs from Chase Utley.
Although they were no doubt fired up at the prospect of sealing the World Series in their rival's backyard, the Yankees never really posed a threat.
The Phillies had raced into a 6-1 lead by the end of the third inning, which they turned into an 8-2 advantage at the bottom of the seventh thanks to the impressive hitting of Utley.
A spirited Yankees fight back proved to be too little, too late, meaning that the side from New York will have to wait until Wednesday 4th November for another shot at closing out the series.
They have failed to win the title since 2000, when former Major League Baseball Hitter of the Year Derek Jeter was named Most Valued Player.
