What are some of the most prestigious poker tournaments and poker events in the world? There are many different niche events that call themselves prestigious, but the two main poker events that everyone thinks about is the WSOP and the WPT.

The first prestigious poker tournament worth mentioning is the World Series of Poker, of the WSOP as it is commonly referred to as. This is the biggest poker tournament in the world, and is held once a year in Las Vegas. It is one of the first major poker tournaments that brought poker to the forefront of most poker players minds.
When it first began, there were only 12 players who took part, but now, there are thousands that sign up for the main event alone. Anybody who is anybody plays in the WSOP every year. The other major poker tournament, which is quickly gaining in popularity, is the World Poker Tour, of the WPT. This is a series of tournaments that takes place in many different places in the world. It does not have the history of the WSOP, and does not attract as many big name players (although most pros do occasionally play WPT events), but it is still quite a prestigious event. Because the World Poker Tour has events all over the world, more international players play in these events. Points are kept from every tournament, and at the end of the year, the player who has accumulated the most points is the WPT champion.
