What's The Difference Between Playing Poker Ring Games and Poker Tournaments?

Put simply, tournaments require a longer commitment. Ring games, also known as cash games, have no time limit and participants play for the money on the table, able to cash out and leave whenever they wish.

In a poker tournament, on the other hand, players sign in, pay a certain amount to participate and start with the same value in chips. They are eliminated as they lose their chips until only one winner remains.
Ring games and tournaments, despite both being ways of playing poker, run on different principles and as such, the same strategy of play will not serve both equally.
Bankrolling is an important element of poker play, but tournaments allow players less of this and, as a result, less ability to weather the ups and downs that one can expect within a game.

In ring games, consistent and frequent play that works with the odds is a better tactic for winning the greatest amount of money.But in the one-off nature of a tournament, it can pay to take a more daring approach.
