Carlos Mortensen is on track to collect his third World Poker Tour (WPT) title, as he leads the LA Poker Classic after day four of the event.
The player, who has earnings of about C$10 million from the game, is more than 300,000 chips clear of nearest challenger Mark Newhouse, with veteran Johnny Chan, the winner of ten World Series of Poker bracelets, lying down the field with a short stack.
Other players still in contention at the event include Raymond Dolan, Annie Duke, Steve Sung and Jim Casement.
Notable fallers during day four's play of the tournament included Robert Mizrachi, Prahlad Friedman, Erica Schoenberg and Vivek Rajkumar.
Mortensen, the winner of the 2004 Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship and the WPT Championship in 2007, will be confident of adding a third World Poker Tour title to his haul.
During the day he knocked out both day two leader Daniel Negreanu and Michael Woo, while he also doubled up in a showdown with Dolan, who was chip leader at one point on day four.
Day five's play will see the 22 remaining players whittled down to a final table of six, with the winner set to take home about C$1.8 million.
