Getting To Grips With Blackjack Terminology

A discussion of some of the common expressions used in online casinos

Once you've mastered the basics of playing blackjack, whether in a real casino or online, you'll want to show off your knowledge by throwing in some terminology associated with the game.

There are plenty of expressions to get your head round if you want to come anywhere close to the high rollers.

To start with, you may want to familiarise yourself with Bases. First Base refers to the player sat directly to the left of the dealer, while Third Base is the person to his/her right.

The player to the right of the dealer in an online blackjack game may also be referred to as the anchor or anchorman.

Another expression that is worth knowing is five/six/seven Card Charlie, which means achieving a total of 21 or less with five, six or seven cards.

Five-card Charlies often mean an instant win in a casino and some offer special rewards to people who manage to get a six or seven-card Charlie.

Early Surrender is a term that you'll need to know if you're concerned that you're about to lose a blackjack hand. This refers to a move which allows you to forfeit half your bet and end the hand before the dealer checks for blackjack.

Similarly, Late Surrender means the option to sacrifice half your bet and end your hand after the dealer checks for blackjack.

Another technical expression which should be in your online casino vocabulary is Push, as this refers to an instance in which the dealer and player tie. In these cases, the player's bet is returned to them.

Do you have any blackjack expressions that you like to use? Why not try them out next time you're playing an online casino game.
