Singapore residents are set to attend the opening of its first casino.

The first casino in Singapore is set for a Valentine's Day opening that will also coincide with the first day of the year of the Tiger.

Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) will hold the soft opening of the casino on February 14th 2010, with the first public guests being invited into the multi-billion pound gaming hall at 12:18 local time.

Prior to the public unveiling of the facility, one casino gamer will make the first play in a private ceremony.

As well as the casino, the resort is also home to a Universal Studios theme park, although this will not be fully open until later on in the first quarter of 2010 due to the necessary fine-tuning of some of the rides, revealed RWS chief executive officer Tan Hee Teck.

However, Mr Teck went on to reveal that visitors to the opening ceremony of the casino will be treated to an advance preview of the amusement park courtesy of a "first-to-see walk-through opportunity".

"This is a significant milestone in Singapore's business history," added RWS chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay. "We promised to deliver a true integrated resort and we have not deviated from that."

The whole resort cost almost $6.5 billion (C$6.8 billion) to construct and is expected to attract 13 million visitors in its first year of operation.
