City Of Dreams Casino May Face Change of Ownership, Reports Claim

Thu, 02/04/2010 - 17:37 — Peter Jeff

The City of Dreams casino resort in Macau could be on the lookout for new owners, it has been suggested.

Analysts are speculating that the City of Dreams mega-casino in Macau could be set for a change in ownership following disappointing financial results.

The huge casino resort was opened eight months ago and is a joint venture between Melco International Development of Hong Kong and Crown of Australia.

Having set the two groups back $2.1 billion (C$2.2 billion), the gaming hall has five signature restaurants, seven bars and lounges and a two-storey shopping centre.

Its revenues have so far been lacklustre, although its gambling revenues for January 2010 proved to be higher than many had anticipated after junket commission rates were reduced.

Despite this, financial experts are still cautious about the future of the casino resort.

Credit Suisse gambling analyst Gabriel Chan told Reuters: "We can't give the full benefit of the doubt to Melco Crown that the turnaround is sustainable.

"We want to wait for more clarification from the company on revenues in the next few months."

And many people have predicted that Australian billionaire James Packer, the chairman of Crown, is looking to offload his stake in the casino - a claim refuted by the company's head of investor relations Anthony Klok.ADNFCR-2648-ID-19597642-ADNFCR
