Canadian Casinos Attempt To Go Green

New lighting has been installed in Canadian casinos to save money on energy bills.

A Canadian casino chain has gone green by installing new lighting, it has been revealed.

Although initially the cost of replacing all the light bulbs at Ontario Lottery and Gaming's five casinos across the country was high, owners believe over time they will recoup the outlay through spending less on energy bills.

Senior manager of Bet on Green Alex Hocevar told the Sault Star that the casinos were now totally powered by emissions-free or low-impact electricity.

However, it is not just the lighting that is being replaced as the chain attempts to save money and the environment by using less energy.

"Internally, in the offices we are working on reducing our paper consumption. At our last measure, we were close to a 15 per cent reduction year upon year, which is significant," Mr Hocevar commented.

In order to achieve this, Ontario Lottery and Gaming reduced the size of its printed tickets so that less paper was used to produce them.

This comes after Rideau Carleton Raceway casino in Ottawa, which has been visited by millions of people, recently celebrated its ten-year birthday, reports CBC News.ADNFCR-2648-ID-19637212-ADNFCR
