Pechanga Resort & Casino in California is to attempt to set a new record by holding a slot tournament

Casino fans around North America could be tempted to head to California next month in order to help set a new world record.

The Pechanga Resort & Casino is to attempt the Guinness World Record for largest slot machine tournament.

Slots fans are being asked to make their way to the resort on February 11th and a prize pool of $100,000 is being used to attract large numbers.

Joaquin Fletcher, president of the Pechanga Development Corporation, commented: "This tournament reflects our commitment to operating the best casino in the world.

"Since the resort opened in 2002, Pechanga has worked to create one of the most technologically advanced slot floors anywhere, and setting this world record highlights the enormous advantages Pechanga's casino has to offer."

In other news, the state of Maryland is planning to start leasing video slots for its five casinos.

The move comes as the state has a desire to increase flexibility and reduce costs.
