Canadian casino lovers could soon be heading to Miami

Casino lovers across Canada could plan to spend their next vacation in the US following the opening of a new Miami venue.

The casino Miami Jai-Alai is a new $87 million casino expansion of the venue, which opened its doors for the first time on Wednesday (January 25th).

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 17:00 was followed by a rush of casino fans flocking in to check out the venue's games.

"The opening of Casino Miami Jai-Alai represents a major economic boost to the city of Miami with the addition of over 350 new jobs to the local community," said Daniel J Licciardi, executive vice-president and chief operating officer for the Florida Gaming Corporation.

"We are proud to be part of this dynamic community that we all love. Our privately funded expansion marks a major turning point for economic redevelopment and revitalization of our neighborhood."

The expansion adds a 40,000 square foot state of the art casino, expanded poker room, dominoes, live shows, a new restaurant and four full-service bars to the existing venue.
